All maestro rf applications (Palm, Macintosh, and PC) include a five foot serial RS232 interface cable for your PianoDisc control box. The cable is provided with a mini-din8 connector to connect to the RS232 port on the back of your control box and is terminated with a male DB9 RS232 connector. The cable will be shipped to you via USPS priority mail shortly after your purchase.

The maestro rf application itself will be e-mailed to you shortly after your purchase.

Macintosh and PC computers can either be (1) wired directly from the serial port on your computer to our supplied interface cable connected to your control box through a Null Modem serial cable or (2) by using wireless Bluetooth modules installed at the control box and the computer.

Palm devices must use the wireless Bluetooth method with a Bluetooth enabled Palm device and a Bluetooth module installed at the control box.

Your PianoDisc control box must have PianoDisc operating system version 4.2 or higher installed to be compatible with the maestro rf application.

To determine which operating system is installed, press and hold the number "1" button on the front panel of your control box when you power it up to reach the informative screen on the display.

If necessary, the PianoDisc company and its authorized dealers will provide you with a free disc and instructions on how to update your operating system.

Wired directly using a Null Modem cable:

(note: There are two types of serial cables, Modem and Null Modem. You must use a female-to-female DB9 Null Modem cable or install a female-to-female DB9 Null Modem adapter with our serial RS232 interface cable.)

Macintosh computers do not have a traditional RS232 serial port so those users will have to purchase a USB to Serial converter. These converter's usually sell for around $25.

PC desktop computers typically have at least one RS232 serial port. The maestro rf PC application will let you select an available serial port on your computer.

PC laptop computers may not have a traditional RS232 port so those users may also have to purchase a USB to Serial converter.

Wireless using the Bluetooth method:

Macintosh and PC users have many options available for selecting a Bluetooth module for their desktop or laptop computer. There are USB and Serial Bluetooth modules available for whatever port that is available on your computer. A serial Bluetooth module such as the AIRcable Serial-Female module http://aircable.net/serial.html must be installed at the control box.

Macintosh users should however consider the D-Link DBT-120 Bluetooth module since the OSX operating system has the drivers built-in for this device.

Palm users must already have a Palm device with built-in Bluetooth. Palm users must also purchase a Serial Bluetooth module such as the AIRcable Serial-Female module http://aircable.net/serial.html with its power supply to install at the control box.

Bluetooth modules may require programming by the user for them to work properly. For instance the AIRcable module must be programmed in the "service-slave mode" for it to work with a Palm device and the front switches set as follows: sw 1 down, sw 2 down, sw 3 up, sw 4 down. All Bluetooth modules must be configured to 19,200 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity.

We will provide a free AIRcable Serial-Female device programming service. We only require return postage ($5) for shipping your device back to you. Please contact us at support@maestrorf.com.
